Mylyn teamed up with @Strengths Consultancy to deliver an interactive workshop on the Strengths-based approach.

“What’s your goal for today?” was the first question @Eline Meijer asked after our MD Naoise O’Kelly Hughes gave her the floor. As silence emerged around the room, people started thinking. Why had they shown up to a workshop on Strengths, more specifically, a workshop titled Adopting a Strengths-based Culture…
As one participant raised their hand to contribute with a goal, it became clear that people had vastly different reasons for showing up today.
- The first wish was to understand CliftonStrengths better from the perspective of HR professionals, how can Strengths help us tackle a new group of people?
- Someone pointed out the potential for better people management. Then appeared the wish to build greater confidence, learning how to lead with Strengths.
- Lastly, a participant said, “I’m here today to hopefully learn something new to help me with my working life.”
Eline challenged the group to come up with a common goal.
The result became “To know where to put our focus – We want to be able to learn how to understand our Strengths, the Strength dynamics, the Strengths of others and how to use the tool in our organisation.”
“Inspired, pensive, enlightened, encouraged, insightful, optimistic”
The thing is, the insights of Strengths range from professional to personal benefits and therefore, people with different goals can all gain from the Strengths-based approach. Naoise quickly knew she had made the right decision to team up with Eline Meijer, an expert on the Strengths-based approach and founder of Strengths Consultancy, to answer the many questions.
With an agenda to take us through the Strengths-based approach, Eline guided everyone through how to read the report. Pointing out that people who work Strengths-based are three times more likely to report an excellent quality of life. After discussing what Strengths really are and noting that her latest published book defines this in great detail, Naoise stepped in to talk about Strengths from an organisational perspective. Only if the five guiding principles are adhered to will the results of the method show.
After a break and an interactive Strength Exploration, it was time to bring Strengths even more to life by looking at culture. The essentials of a Strengths-based culture were presented and as the group started to grasp the approach, critical questions emerged. How can managers deal with the customised element to Strengths? To that, Eline was very clear: “Stay curious.” Ask questions, How does this work for you? What do you need to make this more productive? How can we support you? And integrate strengths into your performance management and feedback loops.
Thank you for a successful workshop and all your contributions.
With buzzing minds around the room, it was time to round off the workshop. Naoise did so by asking everyone to sum up their state of mind in one word. Inspired, pensive, enlightened, encouraged, insightful, optimistic, and lighter all emerged.
Dr. Celine Mullins beautifully stated, “I have worked with Strengths for over a decade, now I think I get it.”
Thank you for a successful workshop and all your contributions.
